My husband is attending an abusers programme. He started a few weeks ago and told me that it’s geared towards people who stay together and who want to work on things together.

The abusers programme have a therapist who links in with the partner. And it was so nice talking to her. She was so affirming of what I have been going through (some physical but mainly very subtle psychological abuse). She told me that what he said wasn’t true and most people have an ex partner. She asked me if that’s what i consider myself and I said yes and had an immediate sense of relief.

I also feel guilty writing this post about the man I married. What a cruel journey to be on.

Can’t wait to be free soon.

      Hi Lionking,

I’m sorry you’ve experienced this. It’s one of the ways that abusers will use engaging with these programmes as part of their abuse, to create pressure to stay or to return. I’m really glad that you were able to speak with the therapist and that she could let you know the truth about the programme. It sounds like the exchange you had with her was quite powerful for you too.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
