      Hello Everyone

I am wondering if you have read books that helped you getting better and if you could share the titles? I am looking for “healing” books, not books on how to leave since I left him.
I already read Why does he do that?, the red one but there is another one, i am not sure what the difference is.

      Thanks

The first one is about how these men tick and the second one is a book of encouragement -it reads in segments so it gives you tips on how to change your thinking, build confidence, child rearing tips xx I found it a really comforting book, I’m nearly finished it but I’m going to read it again right after lol xx 💕 💕

I’ve just started reading Why Does He Do That. It’s scarier than any horror I’ve ever read or watched 🙈😱 I need to stop reading it once I’ve relaxed as it just totally sets my fear off again.

So also on the look out for a healing book to help me feel better when I’m in a tizz. Sorry to jump in your post Xx

      Thank you 🙂

Why does he do that (the first one) guided me through my escape. It opened my eyes and proved me I wasn’t crazy.
So maybe the second one would be good too. What’s the content’s like?
I have seen other books on Amazon, any thoughts?
      – healing from hidden abuse by Shannon Thomas
      – out of the fog by Dana Morningstar
      – boundaries after a pathological relationship by Adelyn Birch

      Thanks xx

I found ‘The body keeps the score’ by Bessel van der Kolk the most complete book on recovery.
It explains trauma in every possible way imaginable and sheds light on the importance of the internal injury to be recognised and validated. He proposes a whole pallet of methods to heal from the traditional ones to modern ones.

      Hi all,

Thank you for sharing books that have helped you in your recovery from abuse. We acknowledge books are an extremely useful resource and tool.

I wanted to take this opportunity as a reminder that as a forum in the public domain we can only have discussions around books that are specialised in domestic abuse. This is because other books may be more damaging than helpful for forum users of different stages of recovery and trauma. Women’s Aid believes that domestic abuse is a gendered crime and is about power and control. There is no excuse of any kind for perpetrating abuse.

Also, a reminder that whilst we make every effort to ensure the safety of all forum users we cannot extend that to other parts of the internet, and cannot allow the promotion of anything that could identify users or others such as blogs and social media platforms (e.g. YouTube). This is outlined in our Forum Guidelines.

Thank you for your continued support to each other and of the Survivors’ Forum.

      Best wishes,
