      Hello,

I reported my ex to the local police for DA and it is very complicated as he is a serving police officer in another force and he knows how all of this works, so he avoided being arrested (detail removed by moderator) and the police are still investigating and the messages and constant phone calls are still awful and upsetting, so much so I was advised to call 999 as I was speaking to (detail removed by moderator) about my ex as they are investigating him too due to me reporting him, and my ex would not stop calling me or messaging and was getting angry.
      (detail removed by moderator)

I just wondered if anyone else had gone through something similar with their ex being a police officer or if anyone could tell me how long the police investigations take before it gets sent to CPS.

I have left him in the family home and the children are with me and thought that after this amount of time I would not be still feeling this way and not be so anxious every time my phone goes off or I hear a car in my drive. I’m just finding this all so hard.

      thank you for reading.xx

      Hi Coffeeisneeded,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing about what’s happening. You’re not alone in your abuser being a police officer and perpetrators in his position often use that as a part of their abuse to make it harder for their partner/ex to access support or justice.

You don’t mention any support that you’re getting. Are you in touch with your local domestic abuse service? You should be able to speak to a specialist domestic abuse worker and get some ongoing support. Services differ but this could include advocacy in speaking with the police about your case, emotional support, help accessing legal advice, dedicated support for your children.

With his ongoing abuse, you could look into a type of injunction called a Non-Molestation Order, which can be used to prevent a perpetrator using or threatening violence, harassing, pestering, or intimidating you or your children. DV Assist are a specialist injunctions service who could answer any questions you have about this and may be able to support with your application.

Rights of Women are an organisation who provide free legal advice in areas of law often needed around domestic abuse. They have a criminal law advice line (020 7251 8887 Tuesday 10am – 12pm, Thursday 7pm – 9pm) that should be able to answer questions that you have about the criminal justice process, so the investigation and CPS and what to expect. They also have legal guides on their website that have lots of information covering different areas, including criminal law.

Also, I just want to remind anyone responding here to please not share specific details of your own experiences of police investigations or court.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
