How do you cope with trauma triggers? I was raped and emotionally abused in the past, it is always with me to some degree but for the most part I have healed and am able to understand the thoughts and feelings that I experience, however it’s the unexpected triggers that I struggle with, I was recently taking part in a team building exercise at work and I was recorded without my knowledge, before I knew that the video even exsisted it had been shared with multiple people, some that I know and some that I’ve never met. When I found out about this, I felt angry and violated and it triggered my trauma causing me to have trauma related dreams, and to just generally feel like a victim again. I assume it stems from a lack of consent and control in the situation. I am finding it hard to move past it and it’s knocked my confidence a bit, I know that I will get back on track with a bit of time and patience, but I was wondering if anyone has some advice to speed up the process? Thank you for your time.

      Hi SkyPineapples,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing with us. I hope you find the forum a safe and supportive place to be with others who understand.

You might find it helpful to explore Bloom.. They offer free online courses created by or in partnership with therapists specialising in trauma. These courses can be accessed in your own time and at your own pace and cover topics such as trauma, abuse and boundaries.

Women’s Aid Live Chat is also available every day if you feel like you are in need of some additional support. They won’t tell you what to do, but can discuss your situation and signpost you to other support that’s relevant for you. You can access the chat service here.

Do keep posting to let us know how you’re getting on.

      Best wishes,
