ParticipantHi
A lot of you wont know me. I was a regular contributor to the forum and did my best to try and support other ladies. I’m hoping that someone out there might be able to offer me some advice now please?
I left an abusive relationship several years ago and I’ll be honest, it’s not always been easy. I’ve pushed through it all (even nursing my (detail removed by Moderator) through his brutal but successful chemotherapy treatment with the support of my other (detail removed by Moderator)). But despite how much I’ve succeeded in pulling the threads of my life back together, this morning I feel dispairing.
I’m a well qualified, professional women with a ton of transferable skills. I had to leave my job when I left my ex – it was not safe for me to stay.
Years down the line, I am still struggling to find a permanent job that pays enough for me to live comfortably. I’m currently on yet another temporary contract where I earn so little that I just qualified for the full hardship package from my energy supplier.
I’ve applied for more jobs than I can count but I don’t even get an interview.
Does anyone know if there is a free service that will help with applications please? I just need to know what I’m doing wrong.
I’ve tried local council. They give careers advice but don’t do anything to help you get a job.

ParticipantHi Eggshells
Sorry to hear your despair- you’ve given a lot of support and strength to women on here so hoping I can help.
If you can claim Universal Credit the jobcentre can help with Cv, interview skills etc but if not, you may be able to self refer to providers of job search support in your area, check online or at your local library to see what’s available.
Getting a mentor really worked for me. I accessed a program in my last job and it was brilliant. My applications were transformed and they worked on interviews with me too. Also they got me to think outside of the box on what I was applying for too. I can’t speak highly enough. Again I’d look to see if there’s anything available online or in local library, social media etc.
Best bit of advice I got was to make sure I really tailored my CV/Application to the job I was applying for and then really sell sell sell me.
Good luck and keep plugging away. You will get there xx 🤗

ParticipantHi Lifebegins
At the moment I can’t get universal credit (complex reasons) so I don’t qualify for any of the support around that.
A search online for free mentoring has drawn a blank so I’ll try the library; that’s a really good idea, thank you.
I’ll also see if I can cast out for funding from charities. I’ve found someone who seems really good and she specialises in moving people on from my specific profession but I can’t afford her atm. There do seem to be some possible sources of funding out there though which I can look in to.
Many thanks for your support and for remembering who I am. xx 🫂

ParticipantHey, how are you doing? I couldn’t really comment on your post, when you first wrote it (not living in the UK, or knowing anything about that kind of situation). But I’ve been thinking about you, and I hope you find the help you need.
