The police let me know that soon he will be invited in to talk about the statements made aagainst him.

I am so conflicted about it all. I really don’t want him to get in trouble. Am I meant rto wait until after his interview, see what the police say, and then if they want to charge him say no?

I think you absolutely did the right thing speaking to the police. Men who abuse women are a problem for society not just you. He is not your responsibility and if you don’t do something now his abuse will continue and get worse. He needs to be held accountable for his actions or nothing will ever change. Try to contact your local women’s aid for support. You can also ring victim support for advice on the next steps. I’d let the police do their job and then deal with things. There might not be enough evidence for them to act. Meantime you need to stay zero contact with your abuser. No doubt he will be playing the victim in all this so work on zero contact.

Hi there Howtbeme, welcome to the forum, I hope you will find it a supportive place. You have done the right thing by reporting the abuse to the police, we understand how much strength this takes. It is so important to remember that you haven’t got him into trouble his actions have done this.

It will be a good idea for you to get as much support in place as possible to help you with this. As KIP has already suggested, you could get some ongoing support from a local domestic abuse service. Rights of Women have a criminal law advice line, they would be able to offer you some guidance around reporting to the police and the criminal justice system.

      Best wishes

      Lisa
