      Hi everyone

Well, I have been offered temporary housing, which is good but i’m also very scared and anxious. My question is; is there anyway or any charities that can help with moving my things from my current house? also, is there anyone that can help with providing things for the house? I am not sure what ill be able to manage to take on my own as the house is far from mine and my car is very small.

I would like to hear others experiences if you dont mind sharing

      Thank you

Hi @Catperson, I went into temporary accommodation and apart from managing to get my daughters bedroom furniture moved (just using cars), everything else had to be broken down and taken to the tip as the temporary accommodation was partly furnished so there was no space – it came with beds and the beds in what ended up being my daughters room, I had to store in the en suite (which was beyond usable!) so that she could have her own stuff. I managed to store my kitchen goods but that was it. I was not aware of any help with regards to moving furniture sadly.

Saying that, there was a local charity in my area that helped when I finally got a permanent place and they provided me with a cooker, sofa and furniture for my bedroom and possibly would have provided more if I had required it. Have you been in touch with your local Women’s Centre? For me it was all about signposting, once you made contact with one place it opened up communications with other organisations that could help. Although the furniture I lost is now part of the debt I am paying off as everything was bought on credit, getting out and a place for me and my daughter was more important than the furniture I had purchased and lost.

Do you know what furniture comes with the temporary accommodation? xx

Hi, thank you so much for your reply and yes i agree that getting out and getting safe is the most important thing.

Im in the position where they go away for sometime for work, so have the oppurtunity to move back and forth for a short time. The house is totally unfurnished, theres nothing there at all.
I am going to contact local groups to see what support they offer, even if its a cooker if the house is THAT unfurnished.

I shall update when i go to see it which is soon

      Hi Catperson,

It’s worth speaking to the council, I’m assuming that’s who has offered the temporary accommodation, about any help they can provide with moving and storing your things. You could also reach out to your local domestic abuse service who are likely to know what’s available locally. End Furniture Poverty list on their website options for grants or other financial help buying furniture, white goods, and other essential items. Some of the schemes have to be applied for by a professional who is supporting you, which is something that your local domestic abuse service should be able to assist with.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
