I want to let you know for years I covered up, I excused the behaviour. I took the step of taking counselling for myself. This gave me clarity of thought when your mind is spinning and all you can do is get through the day. This secret counselling helped me whilst living with my partner. This gave me support in coming up with a plan for when the abuse happens. One day the plan kicked in and I called the police. I won’t go through everything (detail removed by moderator) It’s not perfect but it was a step I feared but now one that helped us and most importantly me. So when you think it will be what breaks you it’s was in my scenario what helped me. please also know about Clare’s Law. If you think it’s just you, think you’re causing it, think you can change him without help ask the police to disclose Clare’s law I details held about your partner. When you possibly find out there were others you realise there is nothing you can do to change the situation as they have history, all you can do is call the police in those moments of abuse be it verbal or psychical. I did and the police were there in 10 mins. I felt safe I felt looked after. They were not out to destroy us or him but to support the situation.

Well done you. I did this too. To be fair, a very good friend filed an initial report and I had a follow up call with them. And within a week things escalated and I had 2 police cars outside in less than 4 minutes. Couldn’t have asked for more or better support.

after it all, they also offered free counselling which I took up and didn’t even k is was a service available. My friend possibly saved my life. I’ll never know, but I’m so grateful with the support given all round by the police.
