It’s looking like I may have an offer of social housing in my own right finally. I have been wanting to go for so long and whilst my children are adults and don’t live with us I have pets that do. I have refused offers of fostering them out as they have all had traumatic early lives from where they came from and they are my support network. I have refused to put my needs before theirs.

But now it looks like its finally the time for them and I to escape this emotional, financial and lately physical abuse (at me not them) and I’m excited, nervous and a little scared of living on my own. I’ve never done it. I’m sure I’ll love it but feels huge change.

Its just the leaving part where my fear is based as there isn’t a time where I’m alone so I cannot wait until he goes out. I will have to leave with no furniture too as it will be just what I can fit into my car with my pets.

Has anyone else experience of this. Did you get the police to oversee safe leaving?

      Hi @Refractions28

That is really good news!  My situation was similar to yours but I did have to get my pet fostered and I had to leave with my belongings in black bags.

I have heard that you can get the police to safe guard you gathering your belongings, this would definitely be worth looking into?  Luckily for me, I managed to find some good days were I was able to go back to collect belongings but sometimes he kicked me out so I had to bide my time!

As I went into emergency, then temporary accommodation – I just had to use what I had been provided. When I got a permanent place there was still a lot I was missing like kitchen goods and living room furniture.  A charity helped me in providing what was needed.

All I can say is, getting out is the important thing.  If the police can help you get your furniture then that is a bonus but please do reach out to charities to see what they can give you to help you set up.

It is amazing how strong we are, I found I was so elated even without my things, just the freedom was amazing.  I love living on my own, I have lonely and down days but overall I enjoy it!

I wish you all the best in your new home, you can do this!  Sending love xx
