I’m not really sure where to start. My story is long and now after years of painful, confusing and conflicting behaviour, always emotional but never physical I find myself spat out the other end, financially ruined because of his life choices and control and having to start from scratch in later life. I’m trying very hard, seen my gp but I am floored. Anyone relate?

      Hi Canigou,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing about how you’re feeling. I’m sure so many of the other women on this forum can relate and, hopefully, they’ll be able to reply and let you know soon.

It sounds like you’ve been through such a lot. People often still only imagine of physical assaults when they think of domestic abuse, but non-physical abuse is very serious and damaging in itself. As well as your GP, you could reach out to your local domestic abuse service for some specialist support. You mention finances, the Financial Support Line is run by Money Advice Plus in partnership with Surviving Economic Abuse to offer specialist advice to survivors of domestic abuse who are experiencing financial difficulty.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
