Please can anybody help me with the silent treatment.  We had an argument and he hasn’t spoken to me for (timeframe removed by Moderator).  I’ve tried to ask if we can talk and (number removed by Moderator) he’s said no.  (timeframe removed by Moderator) he said he has nothing to say to me.  It’s been (timeframe removed by Moderator) and I’m now in bits.  I haven’t let him see me fall apart but (timeframe removed by Moderator) I can’t stop crying.  I have removed myself from the bedroom to the spare room after he said he has nothing to say to me.  My head is going mad. We fell out and I told him I don’t feel I have a safe space to talk.  It erupted we argued.  I don’t understand how (timeframe removed by Moderator) later he has nothing to say to me like I’m the bad one.  We argued.  I can’t remember saying anything hurtful to him.  This is killing me.  What do I do please.  I’ve coped (timeframe removed by Moderator) and now I’ve fallen apart.  I want to run away and scream.  Please help me know what to do.

      Hi Munchkin04,

Thank you for sharing with us. I am sorry to hear how difficult things are for you, it is understandable you feel as you do. Silent treatment is a common tactic used by abusive people to try to maintain control- it is distressing and exhausting to be treated this way. You haven’t done anything to cause the silent treatment or his behaviour, he is choosing to act this way rather than behave in a respectful manner.

If you feel like you need some additional support, then you could chat to a Women’s Aid worker in confidence via our Live Chat service. They won’t tell you what to do, but can discuss your situation and signpost you to other support that’s relevant for you. You can access the chat service here. The Live Chat service is currently open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.

Keep posting to us when you can.

      Best wishes,

      Lisa
