I have been in a refuge for (timeframe removed by Moderator) now and feel they aren’t offering me much support. I have been verry low and spoke to NHS talking therapies and they recommended that I self refer to a domestic abuse organisation for support which I did, they sounded like they had a lot to offer and I felt upbeat, they asked to speak to my support worker at the refuge and now suddenly I get an email saying my support worker is best placed to help me and they have taken me off their books. I’m very disappointed. Since I’ve been at the refuge I haven’t had a chance to talk about my abuse and group sessions only take place twice a month for an hour, for one session I was the only participant. Right now I’m feeling like I would have been better off staying with my abuser. I tried to seek help via self referral only to have yet another choice taken from me…

      Hi Keepinggoing25,

I’m so sorry that you haven’t been getting the level of support that you need even though you’ve taken the really hard step of leaving to a refuge. You deserve to be supported. It could be worth speaking to the manager of the refuge about how you’re feeling, especially as you’re unable to access the outside support while staying there. You might find the resources on the Bloom website helpful in supporting your recovery too. They have courses and other tools developed in partnership between mental health professionals and survivors that are tailored towards recovering from trauma.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
