I have told my other half that this is it and I need him to leave he is a (substance removed by Moderator) addict it’s pretty bad (detail removed by Moderator). My (age removed by Moderator) year old has said that he thinks he will as him to go with him. I am terrified as my son says he is in two minds. He doesn’t know about the drug addiction. My other half is not in a position to look after him as my son has additional needs .He has only just turned (age removed by Moderator). Does anyone know if I can get a special order for him to stay living with me until he’s 18? Failing that I feel I will need to tell him about the addiction but I don’t know if this is wrong.

      Hi Chillijam,

Sorry that you’re in such a difficult situation with your son. It sounds like accessing some formal legal advice would be helpful. Your local domestic abuse service may know of local solicitors with experience in cases where there is domestic abuse. You could contact Rights of Women who provide free legal advice in areas of the law often needed around domestic abuse. Coram’s Child Law Advice website has information on all aspects of family law as it relates to children. They have a helpline and live chat and also a call back service (there is a fee for this service but it’s less expensive than speaking to a solicitor without Legal Aid).

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

Thank you for the advice, I have spoken to my local service and feel much more knowledgeable about the situation now. 🙂

That’s really good to hear. Well down for reaching out.

        Best wishes,
