Hello, can anyone point me towards help for young children? My youngest’s school has  flagged that they think the child is displaying trauma related behaviours such as outbursts of anger, dysregulated reactions and sensory issues. The school is great but their therapies start from an age which is still a year away plus the awaiting list time. So I thought I’d ask here if anyone can recommend any kind of help available now? Child is (number removed by Moderator) year at school.

      Hi Bananaboat,

I’m so sorry to read that your child is struggling in this way. You could reach out to your local domestic abuse service, often they have dedicated children’s services to support children with the impacts of being around abuse. There’s also the Child Trauma Recovery Network, they have a search tool for support on the website. It might also be worth speaking to your GP about what’s happening, if they’re not already aware, to see if there’s any support they can refer your child for.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

      Hi bananaboat,

Sorry to hear this and hope you find some good support for it. In the meantime I was recommended a book called “the power of showing up” which is a great way of connecting with your child in a developmentally appropriate way to make them feel safe, seen, soothed and secure. I found it an easy enough read too.

      Hope this helps!
