ParticipantHi everyone, I haven’t been on here for a few months. A lot has improved for me and I am a lot better than I was a year ago. Kind of coming to terms with stuff and been thinking about how to use my experiences to benefit others. Am having treatment for PTSD which has helped a lot in terms of me being able to move forward.
I have recently done some community training and I wondered what all your thoughts were; I am thinking of setting up a buddy system/mentoring type thing in my area. It would be volunteer run and not part of any agencies but people could basically get support from other survivors who would understand how they feel (although would still have to have some safety policies etc i guess). I guess a but like this forum but face to face and local 🙂 Maybe people who are further along their recovery etc helping people recently seeking help etc. Would this be something you would all find helpful or not?
Thank you <3 so much, and youre all amazing x*x -

ParticipantThat sounds like a great idea, Indiamalachite,
KIP on here has set up something a bit similar. It might be worth chatting to her.
I think it’s so important to keep communicating with others who have been through it, or else you can feel quite isolated.
I think helping people further along in their recovery is an important thing. It’s hugely important to be able to voice your feelings and worries, to be listened to and heard- but to encourage people to grow ( at their own pace ) too.
Different things help different people. So for example, going to a women’s art and craft group helps me. I find it hugely therapeutic and confidence building, but someone else might be fired up by something completely different. I suppose a great buddy group would encourage each individual to go after what works for them.
Good luck x

ParticipantThanks so much Serenity, I totally agree, you got to find what works for you and some writing and arts and crafts stuff I have done has been really helpful. I am glad I’ve come back to this forum, its so helpful to be around people who get you. I’ll try speak with KIP, thanks for the feedback <3 hopefully I can do something to pay it forward. Big love xx
