      And now I’m freaking out!

I’ve applied for a council house in my local area but ex lives in the same town (we are still living together)

Would they consider rehousing me and the children in the same area? My oldest is settled in a local comprehensive school and needs to stay near his friends. We have support and friends in this area. Would they consider this?

What will happen now that I have mentioned the abuse? I’m so scared 😦

      Hi LavenderLilly,

Thank you for your post. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. That must have taken you a lot of courage. You can explain your reasons for staying in the local area and also the need to be safe. Your local domestic abuse service can also support you with speaking to the council.

You could contact Shelter line to discuss your housing rights. Shelter line offer free and confidential housing information, support and legal advice on all housing and homelessness issues. They have a live chat service, and an emergency helpline available on 0808 800 44 44 (8am-8pm weekdays, 9am-5pm weekends).

      Best Wishes

      Lisa

      Hi there,

I’m in the same situation as you, I need to apply to the council for housing but unsure whether they will let me stay in the same area, my kids have settled really well into school after moving here (detail removed by Moderator) years ago.

Did you get on ok with this or did they tell you you’d need to move from the area?
