      Hi, what do people use to record evidence? Ive just been using the video on my phone and the files are huge Ive just realised. Im struggling to send one to the solicitor from last week, or download it. I really need it though so thought I might try and record it from my phone with another phone! Just with an audio recording app. If that makes sense. Any advice as this is challenging me, think my brain has gone into lockdown too, can’t seem to manage simple tasks on top of the constant daily abuse now, think Im in Fight or Flight mode, maybe the Flight has kicked in already. Thanks for your help. xx

      Hi I bought a wee voice recorder as well as used my phone to record. Not had opportunity to use them yet. I used the voice recorder to record telephone conversations as I couldn’t work out how to record live on my phone.
      Hope this helps. The worry is that when we try something we’ve not done before, we’re afraid we’ll delete it.

      Do you have a tablet? You can play the recording with video and video it into the tablet then maybe send it to a friend for storage if it’s not safe with you. Any text messages I photographed with my iPad. An old phone will have storage space too. Use it as a camera? There are ways to copy onto disk and sd cards and usb sticks too x just don’t tackle it until your head is in the right place. When we have to deal with this stuff the trauma kicks in. When the trauma kicks in then the rational part of our brain shuts down and the reptile part takes over. When I feel myself panic I tell the reptile part to go away 🦎. It’s hard to focus on anything when you’re battling trauma and panic and fear. Your brain needs all the space it can get to deal with perceived danger. So shuts down less important parts to avoid danger. Hope that makes sense. I did a psychology course and when I head this, it all made sense to me 😀

      Not being able to manage daily tasks is very common as a result of abuse, and is exactly as described. your brain is in flight mode and doesnt want you too delay. I had this and it comes back now and again even as I am here in my safe new home. Liked I was in the supermarket yesterday and did not know what to but for dinner all of a sudden. I realised that he even controlled the food we eat through coercive means, what I bought and so on. So it will take a long time maybe to resolve but the time being go with the flow, do not fight it or despair. I found little lists help guide every day, and this is why the baby steps are so important. The advice about transferring the video to an iPad if you have one or a card is sound. Or save to the cloud? Your solicitor should advise you as they do this all the time. You are doing well, Iliketea, brave and courageous. 🙂

      Thank you, it might sound a bit soppy but you ladies are getting me through this! Thank you so much. It gives me that little bit of extra strength to take the next steps when I get such amazing advice. Thank you.
      Does anyone use an app on their phone instead of a the video recorder on the camera setting? I’m feeling like a dinasaur! I don’t think I can get a separate machine as he’s watching me like a hawk but I can fiddle with my phone and pretend Im texting and just switch it on then before too long he starts – its like clockwork.

      Yes now remember that you can give verbal evidence and a written diary is also good evidence. You should be able to buy a little memory card that you can save video onto then give to your solicitor. or message them as said as soon as you have recorded them. There is a really good app called Signal which is very secure and if your friend/relative/solicitor had it as well you can create videos with it as in any messaging app and send them to others to store for you. I use it with family. Its what spies use apparently! Its free btw.

      Hi Iliketea

      For iPhones pls follow those steps:
      How to Compress Videos from iPhone and iPad with Video Compressor
      Grab Video Compressor for iOS on the App Store, it’s free and works on iPhone and iPad.
      Launch the Video Compressor app on the iPhone or iPad after you have downloaded it.
      Tap the video you want to compress and shrink down the file size for.
      Note: This app doesn’t actually compress the video, technically it reduces the file size decreasing quality as side effect.
      Test the app first with another test video to see how much sound quality you’re actually loosing and choose the setting that works best, finding a compromise between file size and sound quality.
      It should be ready to be send with a decent file size.

      For Android devices, it’s similar, open Play Store App, search for Video Compress, it’s free too.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks a lot HLJ. That’s great. Thank you.
      and then is there anything better to use than the video function on camera? Or stick with that and compress?

      Yes actually if you just wish to record sound (e.g. his shouting) you have following choices for iPhones;
      • Voice Record Pro. This free app scored the best on the market with lots of editing, trimming and even transcription options. You can save it or send it straight away per email or SMS. Vintage look, quite nice on the eye.
      • Voice Recorder and Audio Editor. Same features as above app with additional option to record a phone call, but only with Premium.

      Recording apps for Android;
      • Audio Evolution Mobile Studio
      • BandLab
      • Easy Voice Recorder

      I’ve an android phone and I just used the voice recorder instead of the video. Put the pp on one of the pages but not main one, so could swipe out the way when not using it

      Iliketea – hey

      I use voice recorder to record sound only, i then upload it direct to Google drive (cloud) I was quite new to using cloud but knew I needed to if I was going to keep so much evidence, it’s pretty straight forward though.

      I just hope if I need to forward on in the future I can simply save it to another sd card.

      Also you helped me on my first post recently and I private messaged you, but you may not have seen it, obviously I know you are in a challenging place. Hopefully we can chat that way further also.

      Take care x

      Hi there, I’ve used Google Drive, you can install the app on your phone and add videos and other files you can then share. Good luck x
