I’ve been left a good bit of time now – with my kids and still living locally. We are now getting a divorce, (detail removed by moderator) and I’m not wanting to upset the apple cart right now as we’re away and doing ok – also if I’m honest I’m thinking I’m in denial that it was abuse as it was so subtle and my family didn’t help over the years so I’m still feeling gaslit over it and scared to try to get support for legal aid as I’m worried I’ll get rejected.
(detail removed by moderator)
We sold the family home and it was a big many bedroomed home and now I have bought a small 2 bed with my money from the sale for me and the kids – they do not stay over with him at all through their choice. (detail removed by moderator)
I suppose I’m saying should I get some legal aid myself? I would have to ask the Dr if they would do a form and it would be for emotional abuse not physical – has anyone done that? I’m scared I don’t know who would believe me, what if I ask the Dr and they say no!

Hello Chasingrainbows,
It sounds like a really good idea to access some legal support in advance of the process of your divorce proceedings.
You can get more information about your eligibility for legal aid from Civil Legal Advice on 0345 345 4345. You might also choose to access some initial free legal advice from Rights of Women Family Law advice line. You can find the details on their website: https://www.rightsofwomen.org.uk/get-advice/family-law/
Affordable Justice might also be a useful organisation to know about: https://www.affordablejustice.co.uk/
I’m sure others will be able to offer some advice around evidence options in your application for legal aid as well.
Take care and keep posting,

I hear you completely!
Unless you’ve been through it many people including professional practitioners can be quite patronising.
The most help I’ve received is through women’s aid and the local support team. They were the ones to write the letter for legal aid.
Personally, I haven’t had much luck with DR’S as I have never had the time to fully understand the situation.
Whereas your local dv support teams/charities will have more time to give you.
I found it useful to write as much down as possible as and when i remembered it. And still keep a diary!
Big loves
