Hi, I’m new to this forum and look forward to connecting with other survivors in similar positions.

(timeframe removed by Moderator) years ago, I fled an abusive marriage with our young baby. Husband was from abroad and it had been a long hard struggle to get his UK visa. It took almost (timeframe removed by Moderator) years after marriage before he could join me in the UK. All was great between us until our baby was born (in the UK thank goodness). Husband immediately changed and became extremely abusive because I struggled to breastfeed, claimed I was neglecting him and he used to rant and shout whenever the baby woke up during the night for any reason.

The verbal and mental abuse continued for (timeframe removed by Moderator) before he hit me. The first time he hit me I took the baby and fled to a new town where I had relatives to help me. I have no regrets. Thankfully for me, the attack was captured on cctv as it happened in a public place. (legal detail removed by Moderator)

Over the years, I’ve received periodic abuse from him by whatsapp and email, but he’s far enough away not to be a threat any more. There’s virtually no chance of him getting another UK visa, due to his criminality.

Fast forward to now, I’m getting all my affairs in order and would like to divorce him once and for all.

Sadly I don’t qualify for legal aid (have already explored this) and I don’t have the funds for a solicitor. So, I’m planning to do the divorce myself on the UK government’s website. There’s a cost of approx £600 I think.

Could my whereabouts/address be kept hidden from my husband? He still has lots of friends/contacts in the UK (that’s why I moved towns), so I can’t risk any surprise “visits”. He’s previously threatened to kill me and abduct our child (I got court orders at the time about this threat, but they’ve since expired).

      Hiya.

I believe so, but do double check on it. Depending on time passed you may not need his consent or have to cite reasons either.

I did my own and it wasn’t complicated but there were no assets/children involved.

It might be best to contact the court that will be dealing with your divorce petition and ask about the location confidentiality issue. Im sure they will be able to clarify the process for you

A quick Google and AI tells me its possible…but its AI and not always right.

I hope it all works out for you x
