Hi, I would like to know how long did a court order for contact from the father took from when you went into a refuge. I’m still scared of leaving my husband & the longer it will take for us to be in court will do me better as just talking to him or when he arrives from work I get anxiety attacks & I hope if it takes long it will do me good so I can gain confidence & also I’m currently (detail removed by Moderator) pregnant with our fifth child. I just want my little ones to have a better life & now I believe I’m ready to take the leap & forget about the fear I have. Fear that has made me n the kids to suffer for so long.

Hey there, please get in touch with women’s aid. There is a helpline number on here. What I can say is you will need as much evidence of his abusive behaviour as possible. This will help you with limiting or avoiding contact. Keep a secret journal. I secretly recorded the final assault. Any record of the police involvement. Rights for Women offer free legal advice over the phone. Speak to a family solicitor. Most offer free initial advice. It also depends how determined your ex is. You may also be able to get him removed from the family home using a non molestation order or exclusion order. Meaning you can stay there with the kids and have him arrested if he turns up. Best place to start is the helpline on here x
