Hi, I would like to know how long did a court order for contact from the father took from when you went into a refuge. I’m still scared of leaving my husband & the longer it will take for us to be in court will do me better as just talking to him or when he arrives from work I get anxiety attacks & I hope if it takes long it will do me good so I can gain confidence & also I’m currently (detail removed by Moderator) pregnant with our fifth child. I just want my little ones to have a better life & now I believe I’m ready to take the leap & forget about the fear I have. Fear that has made me n the kids to suffer for so long.

Hey there, please get in touch with women’s aid. There is a helpline number on here. What I can say is you will need as much evidence of his abusive behaviour as possible. This will help you with limiting or avoiding contact. Keep a secret journal. I secretly recorded the final assault. Any record of the police involvement. Rights for Women offer free legal advice over the phone. Speak to a family solicitor. Most offer free initial advice. It also depends how determined your ex is. You may also be able to get him removed from the family home using a non molestation order or exclusion order. Meaning you can stay there with the kids and have him arrested if he turns up.
