Hello Everyone. I will be going to court very soon and have spent half of my savings already in legal costs. I am over the income threshold because of the tax credits I receive to pay for childcare. I am feeling absolutely desperate atm. I have tried cutting costs but my outgoings are incredibly high. Can you please give advice on how to pay for legal fees if your lawyer does not accept that this is paid when the financial settlement is achieved? Please help

Me and my family just racked up 10s of thousands worth of debts. My advice would be to go to a specialist firm that only does family/divorce law. They may be a little more expensive on the outset but believe me they will more than get that back for you. Explain to them your financial situation and they can tell you a few ways to save on bills…..like I collected certain things and got notes from the professionals myself. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. Just find the people who you trust with all this. I went to a place where it was only female lawyers. I was a f*****g nightmare breaking down all the time, freaking out. They were amazing about everything and I walked away we ith more than they ever even imagined. Take care sweetheart xxxx

I’d consider dropping my income below the threshold until court concludes and applying for legal aid; you may even be able to ask if he can pick up your costs at the end – if this seems right and fair – big IF though so don’t get your hopes up about that, but you could ask if the prcoeedings go in a way that makes it clear he is the responsible party x

Hi Poppyrose,
I’m just wondering if you’ve spoken to your local domestic abuse service at all yet? They sometimes have access to legal advice, or may be able to put you in touch with some local solicitors who may be able to help.
Rights of Women can also give free legal advice around multiple legal topics so it might be worth having a chat with them.
Take care,
