I couldn’t listen to music channels in the home for at least a year. Sad songs, lyrics, memorable songs. All triggers. I listened to any talk stations which were a good distraction. I still have to ask my mum to turn off her radio because she listens to slow soppy stations but it does get better as time goes on. I would just leave the shop but accept that these things will be upsetting. Embrace that and know it’s part of the healing process x

I was quite lucky in that respect. He only listened to really depressing songs. The songs we both liked was music I’d introduced him to. So I don’t really have that problem. I couldn’t watch TV for a long time for some unknown reason. I suppose it just brings back memories. Good and bad but it will get easier.

I sing in a choir and some songs cause me huge anguish.
All songs tell a story but what it means varies person to person. I’m not the only one sobbing at some of our sessions! As time has gone on I’m finding the songs that used to remind me of bad times are having a new more positive meaning.
Anyone feeling sad or lonely choirs are great places to get the feel good factor and make new friends and are good for mental health too!
