It’s been some years since I last wrote on here but I know all of you ladies will understand my pain and I hope I can find some advice from your experiences. I hope this post isn’t triggering for anyone also.
My child (removed by moderator) spends unsupervised time with dad. My child is so stressed out every time they go it is causing massive anxiety and has done for some years now. Crying, screaming and begging me not to send them because daddy keeps shouting at him and scares him. I have tried to get their school involved but my child refuses to open up to school for fear of them telling their dad and him getting angry. My child trusts me and opens up regularly about what it’s like and the fear they feels but only to me. I’m so lost what to do it’s breaking my heart because I know they’re telling me the truth I’ve lived it. How do I protect my child has anyone experienced this and have any advice? I have been writing these conversations down and keeping a record. Thank you -

Hi Yellowflower,
I’m sorry to hear how your child has been struggling with contact. As a mother, of course you want to protect them and do what is in their best interests, and I’m sure many women here can relate to this struggle.
It may be worth discussing these concerns further with your local domestic abuse service. They are familiar with child contact concerns that women face, so they should able able offer some advice or link you to some good legal advice if needed. They may also provide support for children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
The Coram Children’s Legal Centre provide free legal resources with advice and information on all aspects of family, child and education law, including relationship breakdown; parental disputes, duties of children’s services; child protection. They can be contacted on 0300 330 5480 (10am-4pm, Mon-Fri) and through their webchat service (8:30am-5:30pm Mon-Fri).
Family Rights Group advise parents, grandparents, relatives and friends about their rights and options when social workers or courts make decisions about their children’s welfare. They offer advice, advocacy and campaigns for families whose children are involved with or require social services care. They also provide helpful advice sheets on all aspects of dealing with social services. They are available on 0808 801 0366 (9.30am-3pm, Mon-Fri).
I hope you find this information useful to you. I’m sure other women here will soon come forward to validate what you are going through.
Take care,
Lisa
