      Hello,
I have cancelled my upcoming wedding due to partner’s behaviours. When discussing (detail removed by moderator) he was unusually calm, collected and at times kind. However he told me that when it comes to the children he will accept nothing but 50/50 custody, I said i would contest this and (detail removed by moderator)

Is he right? It’s all verbal/emotional and never done in front of others so would the courts not believe me? Does the fact he earns so much more than me mean the courts will favour him?

Thanks so much for any advice. I am really panicking about the decision to leave and rethinking everything, even doubting myself on how bad things have been.

Hi, the best thing to do would be to get some legal advice about child contact. Some solicitors offer a first 30 minutes free consultation. Look for a solicitor who does Family Law and have all the information you want to discuss ready to make best use of the time.
The fact he has more money than you doesn’t matter in terms of the amount of contact. The only relevance is that he could afford to take you to court to apply for contact.
How much contact he will get will depend on your particular circumstances. A solicitor can advise you about this. The starting point is that children see both parents and a lot of children do split their time 50/50 or parents agree different arrangements depending on what suits them. If it gets to court and your children are older/teenagers then the court can take their views into account. Talk to your solicitor about your concerns and whether there would be any safeguarding issues that would lead a court to potentially restrict contact, at least temporarily, in any way.
Rights of Women also offer a free family law advice line. They only are open restricted hours and you often have to try ringing again and again before you get through, but they can be very helpful.
