I’m feeling frustrated with myself this evening.

It seems that somehow on a social media site, the town where I currently live was revealed. I don’t know how it happened or how long it’s been online or if my abuser might have seen it.

It was a shock to me and a reminder to check what’s online about me. I volunteer with several organisations and want to make an impact. I also want to be self employed and look for customers online. It’s so important to me to remain vague about my whereabouts but hard to know what tech firms will do with my information when I sign up for things. They seem oblivious to the dangers of giving away people’s locations.

      Hi swanlake,

I’m so sorry you’ve been confronted by this and I hope that you’ve been able to remove that information from public view. You might find our “Cover your tracks online” page helpful. There’s information about location tracking and sharing on various social media sites. It’s so difficult when the default seems to be sharing details rather than keeping them private.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
