ParticipantI had a two hour session with a new Psychiatrist who specialises in trauma and she has diagnosed above. I always knew I was trauma bonded but this is the first time a medical professional has said it. It’s good to feel validated but I think I’m in shock to hear it from her. It always sounded too far fetched, too Hollywood. She is recommending a certain therapy to help with triggers and medication to help with night frights. She said TopDown therapy? Maybe I picked her up wrong but she’s writing to my GP. Progress.

ParticipantMy partner used to say his ex gave him Stockholm syndrome, although I think the reverse was more likely. I looked into it and wondered if i had it after our relationship ended.
Good news regarding your progress. -

ParticipantI think trauma bonding is extremely common in domestic abuse but it takes a really switched on medical professional to recognise it. In my opinion. She has worked with sex trafficked victims. She’s really good x

ParticipantWow! It’s a big thing to get a diagnosis. I really hope it gets you into the right treatment for you. I have been treated for a few things. Only recently have I been told I am exhibiting signs of trauma. Early days.

BlockedWell done KIP. Really well done. My counsellor said it to me about a year ago, but I hate psyhiatrists so didn’t go to one and there was none available anyway in our area. Once again, well done
all best

ParticipantThank you. I’ve been let down too. But this lady knows her stuff. It took a long time to find her. There aren’t many specialists out there and she is private although does teach in the NHS.

ParticipantYep, they are out there and they know their stuff.
I have a great therapist too.
It took ages to get the help, a lot of fighting and break downs and tears.
I am glad you found a knowledgeable therapist, KIP.
We have to persist, because we know what we need.
