I’ve spent a couple of hours getting up and personal with Billy (Lisa its ok its not a real man!!!) For those IKEA lovers out there you’ll know what I mean…. the dreaded flat pack, screwdriver and occasional Allen key, wooden dowels and plastic screws that are oh so fragile!
“He” always took over when we did any DIY usually muttering about what I was doing and how badly (I did stuff like that for years before we married he was just a control freak!).
Well Mr Smartypants I did this ALL on my own and now have a lovely wall full of shelving for my books and Nicknacks so I can finally get them unpacked again.
According to the instructions it was said to be a 2 man job but this woman did it all by her self and tidied up afterwards too. Even drilled holes in my wall (eeeek) for the fixings.
Ha! I can do this I always could he was wrong to make me doubt it. Next project – new curtains and curtain tracks…. that freaks me out a bit might need to wait a month or so!
Meanwhile I’m feeling empowered thanks to Billy bookcases.

Lol White Rose, I love a good flatpack especially an Ikea one. DIY is not as hard as it looks as long as you are willing to give it a shot and are not frightened of the odd mistake or two or in my case three or four.

Oh well done you! Girl power! I got hammer happy with the last flat pack cabinet I bought and it ended up in the bin! You beat it! I am happy to report I put up one of those Ikea kitchen rails not so long ago that required precision and I did it in one though. Feels good hey. My abuser never helped me with any DIY or anything around the house at all, he just made a mess, on the very odd occasion he did do a job the result would always leave me with 3 new jobs lol – I’m not kidding – he had / still does have a default setting response to most things, ‘I can’t’. Wondering what it’s like to truly feel part of a team today, I’ve never experienced that – ever. Feeling left on the shelf lol – but ok with that. You go WR – I’m backing you in the curtain challenge!

      Fantastic, White Rose!

I bought and assembled new furniture for my kids after he left. I’ve done quite a few DIY bits now.

I unblocked a sink drain and replaced a washer on a leaky pipe too! Maybe I’m not as useless as he said….You tube and the lovely men in that orange logo’d DIY superstore help too.
Fizzylem – I may be some time – just planning colour scheme and I’m a bit indecisive probably amother hangover of the abuse as i hear him being negative about every choice I make x

Yep. I had to buy new furniture when I moved into my place. I could not afford ready made furniture that looked the way I wanted it.
I had to buy flat packs and I built my furniture all by myself. I have beautiful stuff and no one can see that I made it. It looks very professionally made.
I had to unplug the kitchen sink and the bath when I moved in. All works well and is under control ever since.
I am proud of my pretty DIY home 🙂 🙂
A former so called friend was so jealous when she saw it. She shouted at me and said that she could not understand how I was able to make such a nice home when I was in so much trouble. Then she began going through my things and taking things and wanting to take them home. She is fired ever since.
