How does anyone afford to leave? If you are claiming benefits and looking at the housing market (including social housing options) how on earth does anyone get enough from benefits to cover the rent as well as be able to pay for utilities and feed themselves?! What I receive isn’t enough. I don’t even think I can make it stretch just to put up the weeks deposit some social housing asks for. I have no confidence and rock bottom self esteem so trying to get a job is nigh on impossible at the moment.

      Hi HaPea,

There might be benefits that you’re entitled to and not claiming and it could be that the amount you can claim would increase if you leave. Turn2Us have a benefits calculator on their site that you can use to check your entitlement in different scenarios. Local domestic abuse services are often able to help with benefits and budgeting advice and could help you to plan to leave more generally too.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
