I have been free of my ex for (detail removed by Moderator) years , he left after (detail removed by Moderator) years . He was very controlling and emotionally and physically abusive . I had counselling and anti depressants . I am finally getting my life back together and I want a divorce. My ex still owns half my house ,he will let me divorce him but refuses to deal with the house . He has informed me that if I behave he will not come for me . That has sent me back into the spiral of anxiety that I had when he first left .i am jumping at shadows again and am terrified that he will make me sell my home . help !

That sounds like a direct threat, that if you behave, he won’t come for you. How absolutely terrifying.

Getting divorced from an abuser isn’t the same as separating from someone normal. Rights of Women has loads of useful advice and a good helpline. The helpline is usually busy, so be prepared and keep trying. Also your local Women’s Aid may have a solicitor attached, and Citizen’s Advice is a helpful resource as well. Bit by bit you’ll find your freedom. It’s a very difficult and chaotic time.

Hello, I hope it is okay to join this thread. I am new and became a member a few years ago. I got swept up in life and trying to move on. Somehow, I’m still in a bit of a cycle. I have been feeling okay and then I my current landlord wants to sell his home. I can either become a lodger with my 8 year old or move back to the family house. It’s 3 bedrooms and my ex has been living there since lockdown. Making a decision to move back in is a hard one. I’m not sure it is the right timing. Anyway, long story short, I wanted some support and more advice from people who may have walked this path before. So here I am.
I will reply with more detail to this post soon.
