      Hello,

At the moment my loved ones don’t know what to say to me and they’re avoiding me because they don’t know how to help.

Is there a useful leaflet I can give to them?

      Thanks

      Hi PorcelainGrrrl,

This is quite a common reaction from friends or family that, unfortunately, can add to the isolation of domestic abuse, which is one of the big impacts that we see. I’m glad that you’ve posted to ask about this, there’s a section in our Survivor’s Handbook specifically for people who are worried about someone else who is experiencing abuse. It has information on how best to support survivors and about what domestic abuse is.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

      Hi there,
You might like to try the book To Be a Port in the Storm, its a guide for the friends and families of abused women.

Please try to be kind to yourself too, you have so much to process yourself. We are conditioned by the abuse to never think of ourselves, and to want to fix everything for those around us.

Your own healing matters, and ultimately we are all only responsible for ourselves and any young children we may have ❤

      Take care
