So just a bit of background info before I get into the main reason I’m writing this; I fled my abuser the beginning of the year just after us finding out I was pregnant I knew I couldn’t bring my baby up in that unhealthy environment/situation so I moved in with my mother but he knew the address and had stalked me, waited outside my house for hours at a time and so I contacted the police and he’s stopped for a while but I no longer feel safe in the property as the baby will soon be here and I know he’ll start again so I’m frightened and so is my mum. So we went to our council to apply to be rehoused somewhere else and my GP, midwife and the police have all agreed this would help me greatly however the council saw all of my letters of support and police crime numbers and basically shrugged me off… I’m terrified of staying here especially after the baby is born and I just don’t know what to do?

Sounds strange CM. I’m sure you have a right to be moved just like anyone else; although I hear this is not easy to pull off due to the amount of people wanting housing. Have you and your mum considered trying to organaise a house swap with another council tennant? I’ve see this done before, obs you’d need to find out if you could do this in your area, but I have known tennants to swap before.

Perhaps another way of approaching this is for you to apply for social housing? Make a new claim? You could be a priority because you are expecting and the DA should also bump you up the ladder as well but there are forms of course and a few things that need to be done for this. Can you call WA to find out? x
