I had everything in place to leave today. I had even sent some important documents to a trusted person. I can only leave on a certain day because that is when someone can come and help us out, transport where I live is quite bad.
Anyway, I called refuge yesterday and they had a space for me, but when they told me where it was I couldn’t go there because my husband has connections in the area 🙁 bummer! To say the least.
They told me they would look for a space somewhere else, but by the end of the day they said they haven’t found nothing yet…
I have to try again next week. I don’t know how to feel, is this a sign that maybe I should wait a bit? I mean, more than the week? I don’t want to drag it to long because if he looks for one of the documents and notice something it would be bad.
I have even think to tell him that I want to divorce and to start looking on ways to move outside the home, but I don’t know what his reaction would be and I definitely don’t want my son to be there for it, or the aftermath.
These days he’s been so chilled and loving, after he ruined completely the time a dear member we of my family was with us for the first time. I just want out.
Sigh

Hi Awayfromhome,
Sorry to hear you have struggled to secure a refuge, especially as you have planned things so you would be in one by now. Unfortunately, it can take a day, a week, or even longer to secure the refuge space that is available and most suitable for your needs.
If it is your local domestic abuse service that have been searching for you, do tell them how vulnerable you are remaining at that property and that you need to leave asap to be safe. A worker should be able to advocate to your local council for emergency alternative accommodation until a refuge becomes available. Even if for only a few days.
Also, you can always come through to Women’s Aid Live Chat service, open 7 days a week, 8am – 6pm. A support worker can do refuge searches for you there too.
I hope this is helpful. Lat us know how you get on when you can.
Take care,
Lisa
