So the police basically forced the break up to happen, last I saw him he got into the police van… it was really a sharp cold and sudden cut off from him… and Iv not heard anything from him but I can’t stop thinking of him and what he might do, I got some more time of work but my emotions are so unpredictable, some moments I’m okay others I’m angry and crying. How long does it take to get over this and move on? I have a feeling I’m gonna bump into him soon at one point. How does one start to heal?

      Hi RavenSapphire24,

It varies for different people, but it can take time to process what you’ve been through and recover. You’ve experienced trauma and it’s normal to be affected like you’re describing. Support can help, if you’re not already in touch with your local domestic abuse service, you could reach out to them, they should be able to offer some ongoing emotional support. You could also speak with your GP about talking therapies that are available locally. There are courses and other resources on the Bloom website that you might find helpful, they’re created by survivors and mental health experts and aimed to support with recovery from trauma. There’s also some information in The Survivor’s Handbook for women who have left and need support.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa
