The Domestic Abuse Act is finally a law! The delivery of this law shows the determination and resilience of survivors, campaigners and specialist domestic abuse organisations. This is amazing news and we wanted to thank all of you who have supported the campaign as it’s been a long journey! Your voices helped to shape the bill and deliver real change for women and children.
This is not the end of the campaigning to ensure all survivors live free from fear and abuse. Read the Women’s Aid statement on the Royal Assent of the Domestic Abuse Bill here
Thank you to you all for your continued support as ever.
Best wishes
Lisa

Hi everyone
relating to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 please find the act in its original format in below link:
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2021/17/contents/enactedClick direcly on any Title Part to have its details displayed. It’s all written in legislative terminology so don’t be surprised by the dry format ☺️
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 does not require a course of conduct, ONE abusive incident is enough. All forms of abuse are included;
– physical or sexual abuse
– violent or threatening behaviour
– controlling or coercive behaviour
– economic abuse
– psychological, emotional or other abuseHere are a couple of sections which I found powerful 💪
Part 1 Section ‘Children as victims of Domestic Abuse’
“Any reference in this Act to a victim of Domestic Abuse INCLUDES a reference to a child who sees or hears, or experiences the effects of, the abuse, and is related to A or B.”
Children are included!! 🙏✊️yes!!Part 3 ‘Powers for dealing with Domestic Abuse; Domestic Abuse Protection Notices’
The Domestic Abuse Protection Notices is a document created and served by a senior Police Officer to the Perpetrator’s address stating one or more notices:
– prohibiting the perpetrator to contact and/or coming within a specified distance of the survivors premises
– prohibiting the perpetrator to evict, exclude or enter survivors premises.
– requiring the perpetrator to leave the premises for the safety of the survivor(s).
In case of breaching the Notices, the Senior Police Officer has the right and power of arrest, without requiring a warrant!💪Can you see the difference? No courts interference required to obtain immediate protection from the perpetrator. The Police has now more authority. Afterwards the Notices will be send to courts to demand a Protection Order but that’s the next step.
Power to us all 💪😘
