ParticipantHi
I have been contacted to be invited in for a clares law disclosure…. a few questions:Does the clares law disclosure only tell you about previous domestic abuse incidents reported with individual?
Does the fact that they are inviting me for a disclosure mean that they have information they feel is important for me to know? Or could I potentially go in and they tell me ‘we’ve checked and nothing to disclose’?If they do disclose information, does it mean I cannot talk to ANYONE in the world about it including my confidential support network?- I will ask police directly to make sure but you know what it’s like just want to know what to expect as much as possible.
Thank you

ParticipantHi, I used Clares Law, I found out about it from police and was advised to request it, thinking as you do, there must be something on there. So I applied, it was an easy application and quite a quick response. A member of the police staff came to visit me at home with the outcome. It showed (detail removed by Moderator) calls to 999 from the property I was living in and at first I was astounded, and to be truthful i was slightly made to feel ashamed by the attending representative, particularly as there was mention of my daughter being involved (not my exs kin) and that was i was refused contact with her at that point. But it turned out later that as I lived in a hmo it was to address rather than individuals. Anyway, it did list all the incidents reported against me, whether from me or 2nd parties, so that was somewhat useful. I was adequatey to feel like sxxx though. Nothing else came of it as there was no reports of historic abuse so I was to feel it was all my fault, I’d done something wrong. It was left at that but as time went on abuse continued my ex was sent to prison. It was (detail removed by Moderator) and 1 comment popped up that drew red flags to me from someone I wasn’t of aware of in my exs past, about his conniving, abusive, conning behaviour etc. I attempted to contact this person but she deleted her comments, which made me think it had gone on but been unreported. My ex is now again in prison (detail removed by Moderator), and I cant help but wonder if, yes he has done this previous but because it hasn’t been reported its not on knowledge on clares law? So my advice to you would be, do the application, get as much background as you can but don’t expect it to be 100% accurate, as if there previous victims they may not have reported. But do it for your own piece of mind. Its another tick box checked, and whatever the outcome you will not have nobody to talk to because you have all of us here x stay strong xx
