      Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share this response to my email of thanks and support in relation to the DV and coercive control Bill…..

Thank you for your kind words in support of Rosie, who has asked me to respond on her behalf.

Rosie has been bowled over by the huge outpouring of support she has received in response to her speech made in the Commons during the Domestic Violence Bill’s Second Reading.

The government yesterday confirmed that the Domestic Violence Bill will be carried over into the next parliamentary session, meaning MPs will have the time necessary to build and improve upon the Bill – to ensure it can deliver the step change needed in the approach we take to supporting victims and to dealing with domestic abuse.

DV and coercive control has a huge impact upon people’s lives. The strength to share one’s own personal experience with others is hugely admirable. If you feel you or someone you know may need further support, I have included details of the National Domestic Violence Helpline below.

Thank you once again for the support you’ve shown to Rosie – in her own words, being a MP is simply ‘the best job’ and she’s thankful to have been able to use her position to shine some light on the issue of coercive control.

Let’s hope this gets through x*x

My home country already has one that I participated in and I, with the help of my local government representative added an amendment so that with every conviction of domestic abuse the presumption is that the victim will receive a non harrassment order from the court against her abuser. Too many judges just were not handing these out so now if they don’t they have to make public the reason why and the assumption is always that it will be given unless there is a good reason why not. It’s early days yet but it’s badly needed x

I hope this passed and there’s loads of protection for those that follow on from us.
      Xxxx
