ParticipantI just read an article about how some partners use the family pets to manipulate and hurt their partner.
I remembered that one time that I left my ex he told me that he was going to take our cat to the vet to have her put to sleep. He actually rang the vet, who refused to do it and told him that the shelters were also full. So he was stuck with her. I knew that my partner would not cope with her so I returned to the house most days to check she was OK. Over time I ended up moving back in.
This time I made sure that I could take her with me, but now I feel really guilty because he told me that he misses her. -

ParticipantI find it so hard to read about stories where animals are harmed, it upsets me more than human rights issues. I am so glad the vet refused Iris, that is pure evil of your partner to try that. I see my cat like my child, there is no way some man is getting her. Good for you returning for your cat, I am a huge animal lover and get so upset thinking about these abusers hurting them. Borntobefree that is so awesome how you stood up for your furbaby like that, I would do the same, nobody hurts an animal if I have anything to do with it.
I feel like there needs to be a license for pet ownership as there too many callous people who own pets and don’t look after them properly. I saw there is a petition which I signed for councils to start allowing pets in more properties as it is hard to find a council place with a pet sometimes which is just not right, I had the same experience last year so I had to find a private rental that accepted my cat which was also difficult. My cat is often the reason I get up for in the morning, she has kept me going through the worst suicidal depression. I don’t think I’d still be here if it weren’t for her, I would hate to leave her, she is wonderful and amazing and keeps me going. xx

ParticipantI think people underestimate how important pets are. They give us unconditional love and are so innocent and straightforward. No mind games, just cuddles, food or I want to nap now.
I am so pleased that you were brave enough to defend your furbaby and to rescue the both of you.
