      Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could share with me the benefits of a PTSD diagnosis? I’m not sure if it would actually help me to have one and I’m worried about stigma etc.

I also wanted some advice about something I’ve been experiencing recently if that’s ok? Recently I’ve been having nightmares about a r*pe I endured (removed by moderator) years ago and waking up with tremors. There’s been nothing obvious that has caused this to come up now and I’m not sure what to do about it.

      Thank you

Some days a smell a voice a moment will set me off and i am back to my rape and its been decades but i still am taken back. Sometimes theres no reason I just remember and re live it.
Ive never spoken about mine and i still see him as he is family very rare but I still see him.
I dont think it will ever go away.
So maybe theres no reason may e a smell or a voice that you didnt notice but your sub consious did.
Our brains are very strange and detailed things. My counsellor has said I have complex PTSD and we are working theough it. I dont want a formal diagnosis. But thays my choice. Theres only stigma i guess if you tell people you dont have to tell anyone you dont want to. If you feel like you need diagnosis then go for one if you feel it will help your healing. My advice would be talk. Find someone you trust a dr a therapist a friend and talk.
      Xx

Isn’t mental health strange, the stigma around it I mean. If you were diagnosed as having arthritis after a car accident, cancer, diabetes or a broken leg would you be questioning whether to go get a diagnosis. I’m not having a go, I get it, I struggle with this too but i guess I’m saying if it’ll help you get the support & treatment you need then do it. Just like you don’t have to disclose if you have another condition unless legally or otherwise required, you don’t have to share this. It’s your health. xx

I have a diagnosis of PTSD and have received the help I need to be working through it alongside medication.

I was told that anyone who has been in a DA/DV relationship will likely have some MH problems due to the gaslighting, coercion, SA, DV or what have you. For me, once out of my abusive marriage that’s when my MH was obviously impacted from all the abuse over many many years, I hadn’t realised how poor my MH had become until I was out and rebuilding bit by bit.

MH diagnosis… it is just another part of your body which atm might benefit from some extra help. The diagnosis of PTSD hasn’t affected any other part of my life, I choose whom I tell or talk to and so far (Barr one long term ‘friend’ who decided that my ex was a good guy as that’s all she had seen him be).

The help I have received helped me with night terrors, lessened the triggers and I have learnt ways to ground myself when my head starts to spin.

Also, my children have PTSD so it was important that I was honest about my own MH whilst also helping my children to overcome their own PTSD.

It is awful that so many women have PTSD from their relationships, you are not alone x
