Can anyone relate…I have a family thing at the weekend he’s coming I absolutely dread them he actually acts more of an a******e in public. I’m close to my family I know they think I’m crazy for putting up with him but they don’t know I would be shot if him in a minute if I was brave enough. Maybee I need to stop overthinking it all it’s the kids I overthink it would be great to both have kids as our number one priority and make sure everything will be ok for them but he can’t think like a normal human it will be herrendous and I overthink so many scenarios in my head. But I definitely think my time in this hell of a relationship needs to end he’s just so bitter so annoyed with everyone and his negative energy and constant aggression is weighing me down so much my kids get the better version of me when he’s not around it kills me. Has anyone with kids left and found it’s worked sharing the kids and childcare. It’s my in-laws who help with any of my childcare which is hard.

      Hi Better-days,

Thank you for your post. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Its understandable you are dreading these kind of events- it must be very triggering for you to be around that. A lot of abusive men will use child contact in this way.

You know you have the children’s best interests at heart- this is all his behaviour and you don’t have to change who you are- look after yourself and reach out to people if you are struggling.

You can access free online courses created by or in partnership with therapists specialising in trauma at Bloom. These courses can be accessed in your own time and at your own pace and cover topics such as trauma, abuse and boundaries.

      Take care and keep posting

      Best Wishes

      Lisa
