Better-days
ParticipantI joined this forum 5 years ago and can’t believe inn still hear. Some of u know my story, I would need to write a book if I was to write all the s**t he’s done, before joining the forum I thought I could never leave I built the strength through the incredible woman on this forums support to reach out I contacted local woman’s aid and my local housing. Woman’s aid said the could help get refuge but I don’t think that’s for me my oldest kid would struggle with that. So in my housing you fall into bands depending on circumstances ect, because I’m currently in a home i own (date removed by Moderator) I was banded f and not one house has came up in that band. Am I literally stuck here forever I can’t afford private rents they r sooo expensive. Today I just feel stuck. Xx

Main ModeratorHi Better-days,
I’m so sorry that you’ve been feeling stuck, especially when you’ve done the hard work of getting to the point where you’re ready to leave and reaching out for help to do so. If you haven’t already, it could be worth letting the housing team know that you’re experiencing domestic abuse. This is obviously a personal decision about what you feel comfortable disclosing, but there are special rules around domestic abuse and housing so it might impact the banding. Unfortunately, it does vary how well different councils understand their responsibilities, so it can be helpful to get some specialist advise on your rights. Shelter are housing law specialists, and should be able to advise through their helpline or live chat. It might also be helpful to get back in touch with your local domestic abuse service and see if there’s any support they can provide with the council housing team. Many local services have advocates to help make sure your voice is being heard and rights are being respected.
I hope that things are feeling a little brighter now than they were a few days ago, and that posting here helped too.
Take care and keep posting,
Lisa
