Hi ladies, I have to give a victim impact statement soon and I wondered if anyone has given one?

I have an idea of what I want to say but I don’t know how they are usually structured and how in depth they are. I would love if someone could give me some guidance (perhaps over personal message as would be a bit too sensitive for a public post?).

It’s funny, I have so much I need to say but am also at a loss for what to say and how to word it.

They can be as long or as short as you want. There is no word limit. I looked on line at other statements that had been made public. When writing anything I think its best to just start writing and then tidy it up later. Perhaps revisit it a couple of times and asked a trusted friend to check so that it is clear.

I was told that the impact statement can only be about the incident he was convicted of. I had decades of horrific stuff but could only comment on the final assault so I’d ring Victim Support just to clarify. Some kind of anecdote about how the abuse has left you with a life sentence while he walks away. I wish I’d done a poem. There have been some great ones on here.

Wow KIP, only comment on the incident? That’s awful. Whilst the assault has messed me up the years of mental and emotional torment and gas lighting have perhaps had more of a long term damage if that’s at all possible! Have people posted VIS’s on here then? Could you point me in the right direction?
