I want to get a divorce but don’t know how. I’m on universal credit and not working due to disability and mental health. I just want him out my life.

Hi Minimrs,
A good place to start getting support around what is happening in terms of the domestic abuse is your local domestic abuse service. This is a free service where they can offer both emotional and practical help. They often can link you to legal support too, if they don’t provide this directly.
You may be eligible to get free and confidential advice from Civil Legal Advice (CLA) as part of Legal Aid if you’re in England or Wales: https://www.gov.uk/civil-legal-advice They can be contacted on 0345 345 4345 or text ‘Legal Aid’ to 80010 for a call back. If you need an evidentiary letter for legal aid, your local domestic abuse service should be able to provide this.
You could also contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). Your local CAB can be found via the website at http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk. Your local CAB can give free advice on any legal issue.
Additionally, if you are in need of free legal advice, you could contact Rights of Women. They are a voluntary organisation that offer free confidential legal advice over the phone. The Family law advice line offers advice on DV & abuse, divorce and civil partnership dissolution, relationship breakdown, issues relating to children. The Criminal law advice line offers advice on sexual offences, DV and harassment, police and criminal justice system, rights of victims, witnesses and defendants and criminal injuries compensation. Their website includes details and opening times for their specialist legal advice helplines and details on eligibility for legal aid in respect of domestic violence.
Duncan Lewis Solicitors also run a support line and may be able to offer you some help. They can be contacted on 0800 689 3275.
I hope this is helpful.
All the best,
Lisa

Hi Minimrs
I am sorry to hear your sadness, and hope that getting this divorce will get you what you need, away from him.
You could pick up an application form from the court, or download one online. There is the no-fault online process which is supposed to be quicker, unless you wanted to name him for abuse, and then there is another process, a different form, downloadable also. All from the .gov website, just search for divorce and complete the forms online, or download them. Submission of them may cost something, but you would need to look on the .gov website for the prices. This might mean you don’t have to be involved with claiming legal aid, which isn’t always terribly easy to get, even for DA, but it may be easier as you are on UC.
Good luck with this, and I hopeyou feel able to keep posting for anything else you need, or support from women here who won’t be judging you.
warmest wishes
ts
