A family member has invited me to an event in my home town. Sadly this event is in the part of town where my abuser has a business premises. So I’m scared that I might encounter my abuser during the event as it will be right on their doorstep. As is familiar to many of us, my abuser has managed to cultivate a ‘normal’ persona to do with promoting their business, which is quite upsetting really as I know that they are truly monstrous.

Also sadly, I am quietly confident that the said family member will think that my concerns are ridiculous. But I moved away from my home town years ago and I don’t think I’ll feel safe there as long as my abuser is at large there.

I think I’m going to have to offend my family member and stay away as the potential consequences of going are too great. It’s really rubbish isn’t it. I’m glad that I can express my feelings here.

its ok if someone doesnt understand why you feel the way you do – you know the truth.  it is so important to put yourself & your mental health first in a situation like this x

I didn’t update on the event situation! I didn’t go and the person who invited me hasn’t spoken to me since. Still I’m glad that I put my own mental health and physical safety first.

I was once ‘advised’ by a solicitor to try to sort something out informally with my abuser, perhaps involving family or friends as go betweens. I don’t want to put them in danger so haven’t done that and now have a specialist solicitor who wouldn’t suggest putting myself or loved ones in harm’s way.

I wonder if this person realises or maybe even cares how much unpleasantness or even danger is possible with my abuser. This awful person is one of the ones who I’m trying to protect!
