He’s been gone for weeks but I need advice?

I kicked him out weeks ago as I thought he lied about his whereabouts. I’m still unsure if I was right or wrong but I’ve chosen to believe him.
We are still seeing each other briefly but my young adult children are adamant he’s stealing off one of them and don’t want him back.
One even has been having nightmares that he comes back my children are young adults.
He says the only way for us to be together is for him to move back in but I can’t do that to my sons.
He would never credit for a rented place so is staying at a friends on the sofa.
I really don’t know what to do for the best.
Please someone give me some advice
