Information about refuge

I wanted to ask how does refuge work Its a safe place for moms and children . I wanted to now how would women even get there things from there home?
Are they allowed to go back and move there things
Out I am not sure how it works when leaveing abusive relationship. ? . I hurd sometimes they tell the abuser to leave the house and find somewhere elese to live if that was me I would not feel safe knowing my partner now where I live .

Thank you Kip for your advice . I can ask them if I can pick all my things up from home as I dont now how it works . One of my friends told me that she could not go back and get her clothes I wanted to check if this is right.
