After moving to a new town, I became a victim of domestic violence and stalking. In seeking support, I reached out to (service name removed by Moderator), the stalking charity, and the specialist Domestic Violence advice service provided by (service name removed by Moderator). However, part of the stalking and harassment I’ve endured involves repeated calls to the police. As a result, the police have frequently had to visit my flat to ensure my safety.

Recently, I experienced a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to severe hypoglycaemia (very low blood sugar levels). This incident added to the growing number of emergency visits to my flat. Unfortunately, the situation led to a distressing encounter with my landlord, who issued me a Section 21 notice.

When I asked if I could extend my lease, the manager informed me that they were unwilling to accommodate my request due to the disruption caused by the frequent police and ambulance visits. Despite explaining that the situation was beyond my control, I was accused of making the calls to the police, which I corrected, assuring them I was not the one initiating the calls. This accusation, coupled with the reluctance to extend my contract, highlights a significant issue faced by many domestic violence victims: being unfairly blamed for actions outside of their control.

How many other victims are living in fear of seeking help from the police , in case it disturbs the neighbours or jeopardizes their housing situation?

Oh, this is bad. You havd dealt with enough already without this type of discrimination.

Have you called Citizens Advice to see what your rights are?  I’d also be tempted to contacf my local MP if it was me. They may be able to help in sone one.
