I seem to be in a constant state of panic and paralysis. Worried and upset about being unable to do things yet still unable to do them. I need to make a phone call to my housing association and I just can’t pick up the phone. I have two children to raise alone and I can’t even pick up a phone. I just feel so weak.

      Hi Sanguinesurvivor,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing with us about how you’re feeling. I’m glad you’ve found this space to reach out to other women who understand. You are not alone in feeling this way.

You aren’t weak but it does sound like you’re probably quite overwhelmed. This is a normal response to being under abnormal stress, which experiencing or recovering from domestic abuse certainly is.

Do you have any support? You could chat to a Women’s Aid worker in confidence via our Live Chat service (8am – 6pm weekdays and 10am – 6pm weekends/bank holidays). They won’t tell you what to do but can discuss your situation and signpost you to other support that’s relevant for you.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

      Welcome to the forum.
It sounds like you’re having such a tough time. I wonder if your GP and local mental health groups might be able to help?
I’m on medication for mental health though it’s taken me a while to find the right meds. I do various groups, things like art, yoga and self defence, all apparently good for soothing the body. And I’ve had several rounds of counselling and group work from places that specialise in abuse.
Please be gentle with yourself as feeling as though you are panicky, stuck and weak is a natural consequence of being overwhelmed. And hopefully the gentleness will result in less panic.
