      Hi shineshine222,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I hope you find the forum a safe and supportive place to be with others who understand.

This is something that you’d really need to speak directly to the refuge about. Refuges will have their own policies that may differ from each other. If it’s a job you already work, there would likely be concerns about your perpetrator being able to follow you home from the workplace and finding out the location of the refuge, putting you and other women and children living there at risk. There’s also the fact that refuge is generally paid for by the housing element of benefits and can be very expensive if you’re not able to claim that.

If you’re already living in a refuge, I’d suggest speaking to the staff there about working. Otherwise, it’s a conversation that you could have with a refuge during initial contact when they’re doing the assessment and you can ask any questions that you have. Hopefully other users will be able to reply soon to share their experiences of this.

If you feel like you are in need of some additional support, you could chat to a Women’s Aid worker in confidence via our Live Chat service (8am – 6pm weekdays and 10am – 6pm weekends/bank holidays). They won’t tell you what to do, but can discuss your situation and signpost you to other support that’s relevant for you.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

Thanks Lisa. I left my old job and found new one as I am in a new place. unfortunately, support workers are good for emotional support but they have no idea about it. one said you can do part time and the other who visited on daily or weekly basis said you couldn’t. It’s a new refuge so I think they are also unclear about it. I want to take an idea that anyone who lived in a refuge is doing a part time till housing or not. I am confused actually. Thank you
