For about (detail removed by moderator), I had carried around the weight of being a victim of domestic abuse. I kept so much of what happened to myself, mainly because I was embarrassed that I had let this happen. I have been going to Womens Aid peer support group for the past five weeks. I finally feel strong enough to report this evil man for exactly who he is.

It wasn’t an easy process I won’t lie. (detail removed by moderator) I feel so much joy from finally naming my abuser, for what he is. I brought me happiness, knowing that he was about to endure a period of suffering that he deserves. I know he will have to stand in front of officers and potentially a court room to defend himself. Makes me so happy, knowing that he will have the period of suffering waiting to find out what is happening. I wish my happiness didn’t come from a place of revenge but after injuring years of his abuse, knowing that he will suffer, brings me peace.

After I had finished gathering evidence and reporting, feel a unique sense of freedom. this is such a huge milestone for me and I’m excited to finally get some justice. I truly hope he gets put in prison and a lifelong record of being an abuser and a rapist. Even if nothing comes of it, I feel proud that he knows that I will not hide in shame anymore.
