      Hi Lisa,

I’ve just read an article that seems to come from WA saying that government funding has been cut for the helpline from October and it sounds like the 24hr freephone will be shut then – is this true? Is there anything I/we can do? I really don’t think I would be where I am right now without that voice on the other end of the line saying she believed me – that was the first time in so many years someone said it wasn’t my fault. I really can’t stress how important that was to me.

If it’s a false article I am really disappointed in whoever thinks it’s appropriate but I also don’t want to panic everyone in case it isn’t true. Can you shed some light please Lisa?

      Thank you in advance x

OMG its been my lifeline but there’s been a lot of times when I’ve not managed to get through. How can they possibly cut funding for this?? Crazy!
That’s exactly the thing, feeling someone believes you xx

Hi Always sorry, apologies for any confusion. The National Domestic Violence Helpline will continue, however Women’s Aid will no longer in running it.

Best wishes and thank you for your support

      Dear Lisa

      Also now extremely concerned.

Who else can be trusted to run the helpline thebwaybitnhas for years helping endless women.

So many organisations have been corrupted and change the pure support given to women.

Who has taken it over please?

      Yours, concerned

      TS

WA have been running this life-saving helpline since 1987, and it was the first one ever supporting women in this way.

I can’t believe that the specialists have their funding so drastically cut.

This is a sad day indeed.

(detail removed by moderator) I am assuming they will run it for men also as a non gendered line, like they’ve opened the doors to men in refuge.

One can only guess at what’s gone on here.

      Thank you Lisa

I am shocked that Women’s Aid was not even mentioned in that.

(Removed by moderator)has been reported and investigated for bullying etc.

All this money they have been awarded when its the way helping, set up by WA run by WA for all these years.

      I don’t understand what’s going on.

It doesn’t quite make sense to me.

Your the specialists and it needs more funding.

There is zero evidence that perpetrator programmes actually work so when they say they want to collect evidence of efficacy it means about perp programmes. I think the only way in truth to deal with perpetrators is to leave them all in a big cage and let them out-narc each other until they can come to a solution themselves. Whoever’s left standing. Oh well, they’ll be all alone by then.

Refuge got it by offering a lower tender than Women’s Aid.

      Yes, they did.

The point is that WA wanted to bid independently of refuge, when previously refuge had been in partnership with WA on the national helpline.

Id rather not get any more political, and draw the wrong attention to WA, especially the forum here.

So I am silencing myself now!

I saw this too and felt extremely sad. The helpline probably saved my life like most of us here, the workers there certainly helped me wake up from the gaslighting and realise I wasn’t safe. Without them I’d probably still be with him and feel like the deteriorating relationship was all my fault. I hope you can manage to get the helpline back again in future Women’s aid. There seems to be a big movement going on at the moment that is trying to dismantle the rights, safe spaces, refuges, funding etc of women but likewise there is a growing movement against this which gives me hope.
